This is how I would start if I wanted you to think someone else wrote my website. But I wrote it, and this is me.
For as long as I can remember, I always thought deeply about the world. Growing up Mormon caused me to wrestle with purpose: What is my purpose? What is purpose? Why are we here? What do I do? What do we do as people? Religion can give that purpose and for the first 19 years of my life it gave me mine. I was IN IT.
And then that all came crumbling down. I was in crisis of faith, and in that grieving process I become what I am today.
Now, I think about the waters, the mountains paths, the smell of the breeze, the world we live in, in both it’s grandiosity and simplicity. I think about the people in my life and the people waiting to join my life. I think about how it’s impossible to have a purposeless life because the smallest interaction means something. I want to enjoy life and I want others to be able to enjoy life.
I think as creatives we have a certain responsibility to weave the cultural fabric in a way that will make the world a better place. That’s why I care about the problems that don’t affect me. That’s why I engage with the world. To quote Lorraine Hansberry’s The Sign Outside Sidney Brustein’s Window:
I admit it, I care. I care about it all. It takes too much energy not to care.
I want to enjoy life. So let’s have fun.
